Description

The idea of the project was to transform the Pasteur subway station. It was our way to show a permanent claim of justice, to the 85 fatal victims in the terrorist attack on the Jewish Center, AMIA.

Execution

The transformation we have made to Pasteur Station on Line B of the Buenos Aires Subway System has been to plaster the platforms with humoristic graphics (by artists) on the track level. On the upper level, we have designed a memorial by means of a interactive interpretation center with the story being told by photos of the attack, a list of the victims and even a typewriter that was salvaged from the rubble.

Outcome

We successfully accomplished the change of Pasteur Station’s name which is now called Pasteur-Amia Memorial Station. We created the only permanent works of art in the world that directly impact commuters on a daily basis in order to keep the memory and claim for the justice alive.

In the heart of Buenos Aires and only meters from the terrorist attack; there is now a place to honor the memory of the victims of July 18th, 1994.

It may serve as a place to continue demanding justice for them. The station has an amazing way of turning a terrible tragedy into a work of art that causes one to reflect on the memory and acts as a tool to prevent misfortune in the future.
