Description

Speed, power and performance, the AMG GT is the manifestation of these elements and more. How did we launch this beast of a car? We took it back to its birthplace - the racetracks.

The best way to discover the AMG GT was to experience what it was capable of. Therefore, we created an unconventional event concept where every aspect of this launch would be linked to the spirit and experience of the AMG; We would let guests experience, through all five senses, the true potential and DNA of AMG. From being on the racetracks, the sound of screeching tires, the smell and taste of burning asphalt, to the physical effects of speed while being driven by AMG champions.

Execution

To bring forth the soul of the AMG-GT, we took the launch to the Shanghai International Circuit; meant only for daytime hours, we had to resolve how to light the full-length of the circuit, especially since the launch was scheduled for evening hours. To accomplish this, we utilized lighted helium balloons on the entire circuit (4 kilometers) and 200 long-range directional lights along 450 meters of the track.

For the main show area, we constructed a 150-meter long by 40-meter wide stage with 40 meters of moving LED screens. This created an impressive boundless effect, simulating part of the racetrack and stunning our 700 guests. An additional hidden tunnel underneath the audience stand allowed cars to drive towards and underneath our guests, resulting in an even more extreme experience. An event of this scale took 4 months of preparation, 15 days of setup, and 1000 internal staff members to complete.

Outcome

The All-New Mercedes-AMG GT China National Launch and AMG Driving Performance Awards Ceremony 2015 was regarded as the largest in scale and most successful AMG event ever in China. Immediate positive responses from media and visitors alike included:

- Over 700 guests attended, where more than 400 guests experienced the AMG Hot Laps Test Drive.

- 92 journalists from 82 different media companies attended. Their have been over 976 clippings up to may 21, 2015.

- Online Ads Performance: Total of 30,224,634 impressions and 308,354 clicks.

- Live Broadcast Page Performance: Total of 247,585 page views, 87,556 unique viewers and 76,405 video views.

- Autohome APP BBS live broadcast: Drove 382,459 views and 507 comments during the evening of May 10, 2015.

- Xcar APP BBS live broadcast: Drove 245,000 views and 606 comments during the evening of May 10, 2015.
