Overview

Background

With nearly 300,000 sites already using its software across the globe since its creation in 2007, PrestaShop is the leading open source ecommerce solution in Europe and Latin America.

In a context of strong acceleration of its growth and international expansion following its acquisition by MBE Worldwide in 2021, PrestaShop had to operate a major transformation of its business model in 2023, shifting from open source ecom platform to offering a SaaS solution on subscription.

Our challenge was to leverage the brand to support these major changes, while strongly reaffirming PrestaShop’s historical DNA, in order to create a powerful brand that could compete with American leader Shopify.

Describe the creative idea

“There is no template for success”: starting from the market observation that competitors project an idealized and standardized vision of e-commerce – a simplistic world where it is easy and quick to do business and succeed -, we chose to adopt a more realistic, open and straightforward approach, always on the merchants’ side. One that allows everyone to express their potential rather than enforcing a one-size fits all approach.

The creative idea: UNLOCKING COMMERCE, showcasing the infinite customization possibilities offered by the solution. With this brand idea, we open a new era of commerce, in which PrestaShop gives control to merchants so that each business can express its full potential.

Describe the execution

Based on this bold positioning, we have imagined an ambitious brand expression: anchored in reality, impactful and straightforward, the PrestaShop brand is equally rich and diverse.

At the heart of this new brand identity, a custom titling typography, the PrestaFont, was created and developed specifically for PrestaShop. With a set of 4 families of alternate glyphs – originating in the PrestaShop DNA – randomly generated throughout the texts, it reflects the diversity of merchants and the limitless customization offered by the solution.

The iconography, in an omnichannel spirit, mixes proximity photography, enhanced by an analog grain and lively and didactic illustration. We designed and developed the new website, rethinking the user experience and relational approach thanks to a more legible architecture that facilitates the customer journey.

List the results

The rebranding of PrestaShop was unveiled and rolled out to all countries in May 2023, propelling the company forward in its growth dynam and generating significant enthusiasm both internally and externally within its partner and customer ecosystem.

The new branding is now much more legible and aligned with PrestaShop’s core values, while introducing a genuine design breakthrough in a highly uniform market.

- Quote from the CEO Europe of Shopify (main competitor): “PrestaShop is clearly much more visible and identifiable following the rebranding.”

- Digital advertising performance has seen a significant increase: 80% of the top-performing campaigns were launched after the rebranding.

- A BrandLift study (09/20/2023), conducted following an extensive DOOH campaign in France, recorded an Impact Score of 91% (the highest impact) – up sharply and well above the average from 339 other BrandLift studies.
