Overview

Background:

Comic Sans is the most polarising font to date, due to its highly asymmetrical nature. While this irregularity makes it popular amongst the dyslexic community, it is also what makes designers despise it so much.

So, we decided to launch a campaign that faces designers with their arch-nemesis, wherever they looked, there was Comic Sans wittingly calling on them to adopt a more inclusive mindset. Not by overlooking their hatred of it and using it, but by designing new fonts that are both dyslexia-friendly and worthy of their designs at the same time.

Describe the Impact:

The campaign resulted in conversations on social channels about the importance of inclusive design.

Some of the world’s renowned designers have shared our message and endorsed our call to action on their own channels, furthering our reach.

Miami Ad School Europe launched an inclusive design class.

WeTransfer stamped our call on their digital walls.

35 million Global Impressions.

5 million Earned Media.

A new dyslexia-friendly and highly variable typeface named “Inconstant Regular” was launched, proving that beauty and function do not have to be mutually exclusive.

+15k downloads of Inconstant Regular, which inspired work that helps 780 million people feel more included in society.

Dyslexia Scotland aims to influence change in Scotland (and around the world) by activating influential changemakers to be more dyslexia-friendly. With the launch of “There’s Nothing Comic About Dyslexia”, the non-profit organization does just that simply by targeting local and international designers with a challenge that encourages them to create change through the one thing they admire most: beautiful design. All they have to do is design dyslexia-friendly fonts that they find beautiful. Making the world more inclusive, one beautiful design at a time.
