Background

The Turkish women's volleyball team, Sultans of the Net, has gained recognition not only for their high-quality game but also for advocating women's rights. The goal is to increase the visibility of the Turkish women's volleyball team and raise awareness about gender equality, promoting an end to gender-based discrimination.

This campaign aims to improve the position of young girls. While the brief emphasized increasing physical activity among young girls, and it was initially the primary goal, we realized that it would be more beneficial to the target audience to create a campaign that addresses a real problem, which is gender-based discrimination, violence against women and misogyny.

Campaign idea

The campaign, Serve for Change, highlights the gender inequality situation in Turkey, where women's status is so precarious that hundreds of women die in the hands of men annually due to femicides, in addition to all other forms of oppression. The troubling direction on this issue is evident, as in 2021 Turkey withdrew from the Istanbul Convention, which is aimed at preventing and addressing violence against women.

The Turkish women's volleyball team is launching a campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 during their first match, using a special ball with a surface that reacts to heat and touch. Beneath the normal-looking surface, upon touch, the names of all Turkish women who died due to femicides in the Olympic year are revealed. The ball is created in collaboration with the national team's sponsor, Mikasa.

This initiative will spark discussions worldwide. To support it, we have launched an outdoor advertising campaign in Paris and a social media campaign directing people to sign the petition urging Turkey to rejoin the Istanbul Convention.
