Background

The Turkish Women’s Volleyball team, also known as the “Sultan’s Of The Net”, have achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the world's number 1 ranked team, showcasing determination and resilience. Despite their success, they've encountered obstacles, facing societal stereotypes and gender biases, particularly from Islamic extremists focusing on players' sexual orientation.

This project aims to launch an inspiring campaign around the team, emphasizing their journey and success. The primary goal is to motivate young girls and teenagers, promoting equal participation in sports and various life aspects. Additionally, the campaign seeks to raise awareness about gender equality and combat gender discrimination prevalent in sports and beyond.

We wanted to do this in a positive, empowering and encouraging way, not just for sports but for all leadership roles.

Campaign idea

Our "Catch It" campaign aims to promote gender equality in sports and encourage participation among all genders. The campaign kicks off with the Turkish Women's Volleyball team passing a ball to each other and then challenging viewers to 'Catch It'. Participants can record themselves passing a ball and nominate others to do the same. They can also share their video on social media, using the hashtag #CatchItChallenge. This viral challenge will culminate in a 24-hour challenge hosted by the Sultans of The Net, featuring live interviews and events.

We intend to attract the target audience's attention by utilising platforms and channels they frequently use, such as TikTok, Meta, and YouTube. By using these channels it means anyone, anywhere can take place in this challenge - allowing our target market to be able to participate, irregardless of where or who they are. Furthermore, we will invite athletes from various sports to participate, making the audience feel represented in the campaign. Representation is essential - as if our audience cant see people who look like them and represent them, they can't aspire to be like them. If they can see it, they can be it.
