Background

Our task was to inspire and empower girls on the volleyball courts and beyond them. The Sultans of the Net want to encourage participation of women not just in sports but also in all aspects of life.

Being a girl in sports is not always encouraging. They face challenges both on and off the court. In volleyball, the focus is solely on negative actions during the game. If a player makes a mistake, they face punishment. Empowering actions go unnoticed throughout the game.

The word ‘Turquoise’ means ‘from Türkiye’, and the color symbolizes courage and strength. The Turkish Volleyball Team has proven that this is indeed what Turkish women are made of. Let’s turn this existing cultural heritage into girls empowering movement: despite being on different teams, girls are always on the same side.

Campaign idea

Sultans of the Net launch the first ever ‘penalty card’ that celebrates girls empowerment: Turquoise Card. To show that empowerment knows no borders, the Turquoise Card is awarded during the volleyball games by the team to an individual player on the opposing side who exemplifies true empowerment.

The turquoise color symbolises courage and strength, and the word ‘turquoise’ means ‘from Türkiye’. Sultans of the Net will turn this existing cultural heritage into girls empowering movement.

The Turquoise Movement will start in the Olympics 2024. The Sultans of the Net will award the Turquoise Card to one individual on the opposing team during each Olympic volleyball game - even if they reach the gold match. The headlines will follow, and all the girls around the world will see that Türkiye’s Women's Volleyball Team is empowering their opponents. The Turkish players will exemplify empowerment by wearing turquoise jerseys in the games, and fans will cheer in turquoise clothes instead of red.

The movement will expand beyond sports: over time, the Turquoise Card will symbolize women’s empowerment and actions toward a more equal society. Despite being on different teams, girls are on the same side.
