We started from a very real insight. When people travel, sometimes they have to wait for hours for their flight. And from a certain point, the waiting starts to feel uncomfortable. And the airport benches don’t fulfill this need for comfort. So people have to find other positions. Laying down on the floor, stretching over the seats, doing all kinds of bodytwisting. So we created a product to help them in these hours of torment. A bed they could pick up in the waiting room, to rest comfortably while they’re waiting. With the trademark of Evolution, of course. A bed with a different design and aesthetics, made out of recycled cardboard, with length and strength to bear every kind of height and weight. With a QR Code that offered a discount for the next time they come to Lisbon. And experience the full concept of this innovative hotel.

The Portable Room was totally made out of recycled cardboard. Needless to say it was also recyclable, so that it could be reused after the action.

A production of 60 handmade pieces, in a total of 450kg and 420 m2 of cardboard, taken to Lisbon Airport for 6 days. It was placed around the waiting zones in the Departures area, for everybody to experience. We had an Evolution promoter circulating around, to demonstrate how it worked. As soon as people found how easy it was, they just wanted to use it.

The visits to the Evolution website increased by 200% in a single week. By the thousands of people impacted in the airport, and probably by their friends, to whom they must have talked about it. The number of followers on social media also increased by 150%. The landing page of the QR Code was accessed by 318 different people. And the Portable Room was used and reused by around 500 people in the airport.
