Write a short summary of what happens in the film.
The greatest advantage of virtual production is that by filming in a studio with different backgrounds on a large LED display, we can shoot in a same studio without many different location shoots as it won’t be affected by travel time or sun path.
As a project that optimizes this advantage, we produced a documentary-style video that follows Joe Odagiri, who is well known as a Japanese actor and a film director.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
Japan is behind in In-Camera VFX technology. As Metaverse Productions, we are working to popularize and spread virtual production in Japan and make it a new option for video production.
We are also trying to reduce GHG emissions and create a carbon calculator that can be used in Japan. We produced “Vocument” to let people know about our activities on both aspects, and we were able to achieve to create a high quality video that can play a part in our promotion.
Tell the jury about the ambitions & challenges of production process.
This year is said to be the first year of virtual production in Japan; virtual studios started to open in Japan and the number of works produced using this technology is gradually increasing.
The intention of this project is to raise awareness and spread the use of virtual production by producing a promotional video that tells the appeal of this technology and impresses the Japanese video industry that this can be one of options for video production. In order to achieve this, we filmed in documentary style and filmed many background footage. With less than two months pre-production, 6 full CG background scenes were created and 14 live-action backgrounds were shot and a total of 20 scenes were shot in two days.
