Description
The British Olympic athlete Marlon Devonish stands inside a dark and curious looking room. As we get closer, we hear a muffled voice call his name breaking his concentration. Now we see he is standing in the middle of the London 2012 Olympic Stadium wearing Great Britain's Olympic uniform. We hear the crowd cheering for him and follow the noise going inside his ear and through his body. The sound provokes a reaction inside him. His synapsis fire, his heart starts to beat faster. Unexpected images like a wasp trapped in a jar and a glass pyramid exploding make us understand that his mind is being affected too. We finally come out of his body and hear the starting pistol go off. As Marlon puts all his power into motion a line appears on screen: 'The crowd is my only drug'. Followed by the sign off: 'GSK. Providing anti-doping science for London 2012'.
Execution
"READY" proved challenging on many levels. As everybody knows, today’s budgets are limited, so having to produce and marry a script as complex in it’s physical and post elements was a big challenge.
The first area where substantial savings were made were in post. Initially quoted over £200k by a production company, a deal was struck for the sum of £76k (saving of almost £130k). This fee was then was matched by another production company who eventually won the job on the director’s request
Deals were also struck with the Audio and given the complexity and importance of it,the sound studio duly obliged by striking another all-in deal for a fee of £20k. A huge saving given the total hours spent in studio.
