OVERVIEW

Execution

We sent a letter to Ana Maria Matute, member of Spanish Royal Academy Dictionary and chairperson for the letter K, along with a present to show her the romantic touch that “kincon” could give to the cold and short letter K.We made spots. In one of them, a Lolita gave her support to the cause, as she was also a fiction character who entered the Dictionary. In others, a Kaiser and a Kenyan asked for support so that “kincon” could be part of the letter K. They are few and they are bored to death.

In order to make the new word popular, we also commissioned singer and composer Riky López to create a song. He added it to his repertoire and started to spread the initiative in his concerts. We created a website, www.kingkong4ever.com, which was the main platform for every content. The users could also vote and download the posters to support the initiative.

Outcome

One month after launching the site, more than 2,000 votes were registered and the song “What were you thinking, kincon?” had more than 10,000 downloads in www.elrellano.com, the main site for viral marketing among Spanish internet users. The initiative was rapidly shown in TV programs, press and radio and was one of the most commented news stories on the day it was published in www.elpais.es, the digital version of one of the main Spanish newspapers.Cinema and literature celebrities such as J.A Bayona (”The Orphanage”), Nicolás López (”Saints”), Lloyd Kaufman (“The Toxic Avenger”), Assumpta Serna and Rosa Montero gave us their unconditional support.Lots of bloggers felt identified with the meaning of the new word and started using it spontaneously. The next Spanish Royal Academy Dictionary will be edited in 2013 - time to know if together we have managed to get “kincon” into it.
