Overview

Background

The entire commercial was shot on location in Queenstown at Coronet Peak. There was an enormous amount of planning that went into ensuring the safety of the cast and crew in what was a challenging location. Rigs and harnesses were used to suspend the actors from the peak where we had to contend with the elements and the limited amount of time they could be suspended from the ledge.

Given the environment that we had to shoot in, it made directing the talent very challenging.

Execution

Given the environment that we had to shoot in, it made directing the talent very challenging. The Director ran several rehearsals with actors both in the rigging harnesses and out of them to ensure the dialogue was delivered calmly and deliberately - retaining the comedy of the spot.

The trust developed between the director and the cast is what makes this spot shine.

As with all elements of this, there were many elements to contend with - like working whilst looking off the edge of the cliff. The cinematography of this piece excellently demonstrates the 'precariousness' of the situation whilst not revealing the safety secrets. For the downplayed comedy to land the visuals had to provide the perfect high-intensity juxtaposition.
