Description

As an Icelandic Vodka, Reyka was understandably proud and excited that its team was doing so well in the UEFA Euro Cup. So within 24 hours of their victory over their UK to make it into the quarterfinals, we tweeted out a challenge to a certain vodka from their next opponent’s country – France. Although the specific vodka was never mentioned for legal reasons, we think the goose in the background made it a bit obvious.

If France won, the Reyka team would take a shot of their French vodka and since the French national anthem. But if Iceland won, the French vodka team would have to take a shot of Reyka and do the Icelandic viking chant popular at Icelandic Football games.

Execution

The challenge was made in a simple video with an Icelander, named Frikki, speaking on behalf of the brand.

We also filmed two additional videos to post immediately following the match - one if Iceland one and one if Iceland lost.

Unfortunately, Iceland lost. But we were a vodka of our word. Frikki took a shot of the French vodka and sang the French national anthem. Although not very enthusiastically.

Outcome

The effort was the most popular twitter posts Reyka has ever done, getting retweet hundreds of times (including by ESPN) and being covered in a handful of blogs.

And our follower count grew by about 25% in the days following the challenge.
