Description
The idea was to not only make a Christmas classic available to the visually impaired, but also to produce it in an entirely new way.
Though Described Video exists for many Christmas films, one had never been made for Rudolph. To make the film more accessbile and enjoyable for children, the narration was performed by a kid, something that is not traditionally done in this category.
Execution
The narration was performed and recorded at TA2 Sound + Music studios. The film was then sent
around to industry colleagues and clients on December 20th.
Shortly after, the film was distributed nationally by Universal, airing on Treehouse TV, YTV and NBC December 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th.
Outcome
Over the four air dates, Rudolph was viewed in described video by over 758,000 people across the country. Though it was intended as a one time special, Universal has expressed interest to run it every Christmas from here on out.
