Execution

We partnered with The New York Times, The Washington Post, Mashable, and Gizmodo to get access to relevant, thought-provoking articles. We recorded John Slattery (Mad Men’s Roger Sterling) reading the text, along with a clever aside demonstrating the thermostat’s listening capabilities. The following day, we posted the rich media banners where consumers can listen to John Slattery read an article from each site.

It was the first talking banner of its kind, brought to you by the first thermostat built to listen.

Outcome

During the one-day takeover, the banner produced record results:

- 18% interaction rate vs. the average .08% interaction rate.

- Average listening time: 43 seconds. 4 times the industry standard of 11 seconds.

- Visits to honeywell.com increased 127%.

- Over 11,000 social media mentions.
