Description

Our solution for the brand's identity was inspired by cymatics: the study of sound and vibration made visible through patterns that are formed when sound frequency is introduced to a medium like water or fine grains of salt. We created and recorded a series of cymatic experiments. The resulting footage was used as inspiration for all design elements, including the website.

Execution

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT & PROCESS

For the website, we used the original cymatic footage to represent the international identity, whilst each regional station was represented by their own unique version of a cymatic pattern. These graphic interpretations were further made unique by the use of colour inspired by their national flags. To enhance the site experience, these were amplified with sound pertinent to each region.

DESIGN EXECUTION

A sense of interactivity is created with the patterns responding dynamically to the user’s mouse or finger movement, with sound pertaining to each regional station responding similarly.

Outcome

Feedback from investors, stations and the public is excitement about the new branding. The website experience is responsive, easy to use - but still stimulating and interactive. It creates a simple but rewarding experience. The brand perception has shifted from being slightly 'old fashioned' to being relevant and progressive.
