Description

The central experience when visiting an exhibition with only two paintings is the concentrated comparative viewing, discovering their correspondences. We abstracted this process and transferred it to the conditions in a public space. A series of surfaces forming a zigzag outline are alternately covered by a segment from the same relative position of the two paintings. Along the installation one may view the corresponding pictorial excerpts side by side. It is also possible to reverse this crossing: from a certain visual angle, only the surfaces of one of the two paintings are visible, from which the eye then reconstructs the original.

Execution

In a first step we designed the exhibition room in order to experience the concentrated comparative viewing of the two works. The construction of the zigzag formed installation, which is located in front of the museum Neue Pinakothek, constituted the campaign's launch. Additionally, we developed leaflets, invitations and a book cover. We set up posters on advertising columns and two large surfaces on the facade of a central bank building. In the next step we developed a brief radio commercial, as well as a cinema spot and an animation, which we placed at different spots at Munich Airport.
