Background
This work was created specifically for theatergoers. In an effort to reach and develop new audiences for AT&T, media was bought with National CineMedia that put 90-second branded content in theaters prior to almost every movie that was released in 2018.
Execution
Today’s high school gyms are multipurpose, using the gym floor for many other sports. So we rebuilt most of the hardwood floor. It was no easy task, considering the many shadows and highlights bouncing off the shiny surface. The crowd size was doubled with individually shot, live-action people in the stands. And perhaps most difficult was designing and animating our robot’s CG face, finding a look that felt unique and had the polish of something worthy of the big screen. Since the spot was shown in theaters, any small mistake would be clearly visible. So we strived for perfection unseen on most video jobs.
