Execution

After spending time with CSPD clients and staff we realized just how much the organization does to improve the lives of those with disabilities. That led us to our insight: CSPD helps their clients live life to the fullest. Using this insight as our foundation we brainstormed, finally settling on the idea to print the entire annual on balloons. Not only were balloons perfect metaphors for joy and celebration – which aligned well with CSPDs 40th anniversary – but they brought a physical dimension to the idea of life lived to the fullest. Numerous rounds of tests were done to ensure that the balloons would remain legible when inflated. The report was unveiled at their 2014 AGM where it was presented to the CSPD board of directors, support staff and clients. We photographed people with the balloons and created a digital version of the Annual Report that doesn't require any huffing or puffing — cspd.ab.ca/ar2014.

Outcome

By using balloons as our medium we were able to create a fun and engaging piece of communication that not only celebrated the CSPD’s 40th anniversary but also effectively illustrated our central idea – that people with disabilities are able to live life to the fullest with the help of the CSPD. Results were overwhelmingly positive. The report was shared by key influencers and government officials, like Calgary’s popular mayor - Naheed Nenshi.
