OVERVIEW

Description

Beard Baubles is an agency Christmas card that snowballed into headline news worldwide, and one of the most sought after novelty Christmas accessories of 2014.

With a £0 media spend and a small £23 production budget, Beard Baubles featured on thousands of news channels and blogs across the globe within 48 hours of launching (including ITV's morning news in the UK and ABC's live news in the US).

The entire stock of Beard Baubles sold out within 72 hours and some even resold on eBay for £250 each. As we couldn't meet demand, a ton of imitation products and parodies started popping up online.

In partnering with BeardSeason.com, the Beard Baubles campaign not only amassed over £3,500 for Melanoma research, but also a priceless amount of global PR for both Grey London and Beard Season.

Execution

After sourcing thousands of miniature baubles and hair grips we hand made a prototype product. Then we designed the Beard Baubles logo and packaging. We then photographed the Beard Baubles on the beards of three models and designed an e-commerce site to share the idea with the world. Yet, before we had time to fine tune and finish our product, orders had gone through the roof.

As demand soared and the stock of Beard Baubles rapidly sold out, we created a simple “How to make your own Beard Baubles” YouTube tutorial and asked people who viewed it to donate.
