Description
To us, the essence of this movement is experiment, clarity, detail, and the immanent notion of the Gesamtkunstwerk. Thus, we created a magazine that refers to this holistic approach by providing complete freedom to give each article a formally and conceptually conclusive design.
Execution
By ignoring grid and typographic definitions, using analogue reproduction methods and unedited archive images, the design references something „old“ and raw, yet refined and modern, with great attention to detail.
Outcome
Content- and design-wise the magazine successfully underlines the ever-present aftermath of Modernism in todays Vienna. It connects the well known manifestations of the movement around 1918 with a contemporary view on culture and design in recent times. This strategic approach and the magazines’ sophisticated and very non-commercial design effectively brought attention to the Boards’ focus on Viennese Modernism in 2018 and caught the eye of various media outlets and important stakeholders.
