Description

When four bank robbers walk unknowingly into a pub full of cops an epic and hilarious chase unfolds.

Execution

ROBBERS

These needed to be guys we dig hanging out with, but at the same time you believe they might be naughty enough to rob a bank! They must have some character and interest to the way they look. They are a group of friends. Their performances could never look pushed or overtly expressive…..and, they had to be able to run! Believe me some people cannot run or are very unco at running. So in the casting, when we got to shortlist stage, I wanted to see each actor run outside for 50 meters. You will be surprised at how some people just look stupid when they run. I considered how they ran and how this would work as a group (and effect humour).

COPS

I liked the idea that the cops varied in age from 30 to 50 years old. Without ever getting obvious or tacky, I wanted to throw in every cop cliché look from all the films we know and love. So there’s a few moustaches and short buzz cuts, there’s the slightly portly ones. The older captains, the tougher FBI style guys alongside regular beat cops.

They wore invented uniforms, and a mix of FBI style parkers, badges showing on neck chains, with tidy plain clothes as well as a traditional film-style police uniform that we invented (which had to legally in no way resembled real Australian cops).
