Background
The confidence that Africans have in themselves and the role they play in the world is at an all-time high. Africans are consistently writing and rewriting their narrative as they seek to prove to themselves, and the world, that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. Chicken Licken has played a part in adding to this narrative by creating commercials that show Africans achieving great feats. They have told the stories of African astronauts that travelled to space, an African archaeologist who discovered the tomb of an Egyptian Pharaoh, an African man who succeeded in bringing artificial intelligence to life, and now the continent’s first explorer who rewrites history by discovering a foreign land.
Execution
The Big John Top Deluxe meal from Chicken Licken is a relatively well-known offering, yet no one knows where the name Big John comes from or who, if anyone, the meal is named after.
This sparked the idea of creating a piece of film around the legend of Big John and why a meal from Chicken Licken was named after him. We brought this concept to life through a television commercial where Big Mjohnana, a young man who’s driven by a hunger for adventure, does the impossible and rewrites history.
