Description

A web-based social music platform featuring beatboxing M&M’S characters. Users can access bitesizebeats.com on any device, no app download required. The web experience adapts the UX, design and musical stylings to the M&M’S characters’ distinct identity to create a platform that turns anyone into a professional DJ. Animated in a unique 2D form, their colors, mannerisms and expressions are all translated into a new aesthetic. 24 original accessories and music loops are all tailor-made to match their unique styles. Users simply drag and drop an accessory onto a character to make them beatbox. The accessories correlate to original music loops that combine to create endless beatboxing melodies. There’s even a bonus interlude when users unlock the right combination. Users record, submit and share their beat, racking up views on the leaderboard and social media.

Execution

We leaned into the entertainment factor of the platform by launching it on one of entertainment’s biggest nights: the Oscars. We kicked off the campaign with a 15 second commercial featuring a user-generated beat and a call for entries. We supported the TV messaging by driving to the platform with customized ads and content on Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Music.ly and more. Thousands of beats poured in from every avenue, creating a pool of user generated content to choose our next ads from. Throughout 2017, we will continue airing select user generated beats as TV and OLV ads.

Outcome

Bite-Size Beats’ authentic approach to music and user-generated content has proven M&M’S bite-size product is here to stay, play and thrive in maker culture. Big time.

RESULTS (in first 60 days):

- Number of beats made: 16,450

- Average time on site: 1:48

- Total visits/sessions: 348,057

- Total pageviews: 514,837

- 18% of people who visited the site created a beat

- 20% of users came back to the site more than once
