A teenage girl sneaks out in the middle of the night to elope with her boyfriend. And she takes her father’s Cadillac. When mom and dad discover she’s gone, dad gives chase.
Execution
The campaign launched with a 5-second commercial, whose length reinforced the "Under 5-second" story.Those TV ads, plus a :60 spot on the Super Bowl, sent viewers to a microsite, CadillacUnder5.com.To involve consumers, CadillacUnder5.com announced a contest to create the best 5-second film.To entertain consumers, CadillacUnder5.com was hosted by Chili Palmer (a Cadillac-driving film producer played by John Travolta in the upcoming film, "Be Cool").POsters announced the contest to film schools.A 5-second film (submitted for the contest) was shown during the Academy Awards telecast.Additional TV ads and outdoor cross-promoted the contest and "Be Cool".
Outcome
Each commercial directed viewers to CadillacUnder5.com which received 2.5 million unique page views in one month. From this site, Cadillac received 43,000 requests for Cadillac dealer locations.The results: 2.5 million unique page views on CadillacUnder5.com, 2,648 film entries in just two weeks, 1 million additional visitors to Cadillac.com. And, as far as moving the brand, in the eyes of many, Cadillac is cool again. USA Today, 3/21/05.
