Description

Being in a chauvinistic society, the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) faces a tough challenge to encourage people from all walks of life to play a role in helping eradicate violence against women. Due to limited funds, the organisation required effective, low budget communication that would compel people to lend their support. Our challenge was to find a way to self-fund an innovative and affordable means to get our message across.

Execution

We designed erasers featuring a picture of a menacing fist on one side to symbolise how we can all play a role in erasing violence against women. The other side featured a call-to-action with WAO’s telephone number. These erasers were then packaged and sold to WAO’s partners, college students and the general public, with proceeds going back to the organisation.

Outcome

The innovative use of the eraser proved to be a simple, effective and non-invasive way of reminding people that we can all play a role to end violence against women, and that victims of abuse will have someone to turn to. The message rang clear, demand exceeded supply and the first batch of 2,000 erasers were sold amounting to USD1,852.22 worth of proceeds that went into the further funding of WAO’s efforts. Due to increasing demand, the second batch is currently being produced.
