Background
The atrocities that happen in war are too extreme to be shown on national television, so we used the British censorship guidelines to help create our advertising campaign. We tell the story of two children on their way to school who get caught up in an airstrike. We then censor the horrors they come across using pixelation so the advert can be run in commercial breaks. This also makes the point that some children have to live through things we can’t even show.
Execution
Our film tells the story of two children who live in a warzone. One day, on their way to school, the brother and sister are caught up in a horrific bombing which leaves them physically and mentally wounded. We then follow the children on a traumatic journey of rescue and recovery. The worst aspects of what the children see are censored throughout the film to protect viewers from the horror. This serves to underline the children’s terrible suffering. At the end of the film, we see Save the Children helping the children and offering them a chance of a more hopeful future.
