'Radio Star' is an on-air/online search which awards an unknown singer a recording contract. Locally, 84 stations have been empowered to create individualised programming and solicit entries. A turn-key website allows each station to customise 'Radio Star' for its market, and ultimately, listeners can interact and vote for their favorite entries. A 10-week national radio special will air weekly on each station, featuring seven contestants per week, as well as a celebrity host.
Outcome
Only four weeks into the campaign, Winterfresh has received more than 1,000 entries on the national website and an estimated 40,000 locally. One station in Tucson reports 451 contestants in that market alone. There have also been 60,000 unique hits on bearadiostar.com, as well as extensive media coverage.
