Description
The fighting cholitas are wrestling women, that fight in rings in Bolivia, using traditional costumes. The film tells the story of one of those women: ChinChin, a local hero that travels to Buenos Aires to participate in El Ojo Morado (The Black Eye), a competition with the best wrestlers in Latin America. With no recognition in the beginning, ChinChin ends up conquering fame, fortune. She becomes a sex symbol, a diva, and becomes a global heroine.
Execution
The casting process began in Brazil.
Dozens of Bolivian actresses auditioned for the role of ChinChin.
They had to act, but they also had to fight.
Among all the great actresses, some of great fame in Bolivia, none seemed as legitimate of a fighter as we wished.
So, we had to contact and find the really the real Cholitas.
The auditions restarted, as we met these women and their stories: housewives by day, wrestlers by night.
As the production was about to start, the casting process shifted to local talents.
To bring extra credibility to the story, we used locals. Most of them had never acted before. So, we had different dynamics to make them understand and live their unique characters.
