Overview

Background

This video was produced by OKAYAMA TOYOPET, a TOYOTA dealership, to educate drivers on their responsibility as a car sales company to observe traffic rules.

In Japan, when a car does not pause at a pedestrian crossing with no traffic light, it is a violation of traffic rules, yet more than 60% of cars do not stop, creating a social problem.

The goal is to change the mindset of drivers in Japan, where the bad habit of giving priority to automobiles over pedestrians is deeply rooted.

Execution

The story takes place at a pedestrian crossing, where there is no traffic light.

A man and a woman are facing each other across the road.

The frustration of not being able to meet each other's gaze, and their unrequited feelings for each other.

Time passed as high school students, college students, and adults, but they were unable to express their feelings.

They were about to give up, but they gathered their courage and took a step forward.

Ahead of them, however, was a car that did not pause at a crosswalk without a traffic light.

Their feelings were not for each other, man and woman, but for the driver of the car who would not stop.

Outcome

The video gained media exposure in a total of 178 media outlets, including two national television programs, with an advertising value of more than 100 million yen.

The percentage of vehicles stopping at crosswalks with no traffic light when pedestrians are present improved from 38.9% in the previous year to an all-time high of 45.1%.
