Execution

'Dance With Us' was based on two key insights:

1. People care more about causes when they can participate in a way that’s familiar and comfortable. If you can dance, you can fight cancer.

2. To reach its lofty goals, THON had to expand from just being a local success. It had to go global.

For an organization with a 41-year history of dancing for the kids, Dance With Us was the perfect way to extend its message across the globe and increase enthusiasm, support and funding for the cause.

Outcome

THON asked the world to dance - and the world said yes. Thousands of people learned the line dance and submitted videos of their moves. Nearly 200,000 people from over 180 countries tuned in via live stream and over 20,000 people united in Dance With Us to battle pediatric cancer.

THON raised an all-time high $12.4m in 2013 and blew past the $100m donation mark. They generated over 132m media impressions, increased Facebook fans by 15% and prompted over 100,000 unique social conversations. The largest student-run philanthropy in the world was now truly a global phenomenon.
