Description
Design Indaba is an annual international design conference and expo that aims to push creative industries to new heights. Design gurus from all over the world gather at the event. Tasked to develop this year’s concept, we were inspired by the World Cup and the idea that, like sports, creativity deserves its due. Design Indaba 2010 welcomed delegates to the ‘Creative Playing Field’. Conference speakers became the international touring team and a nationwide search was launched for a local national creative team. In keeping with this concept we needed to create speaker introductory AVs.
Execution
Capturing big game emotion and festivity, the introductions took on the appearance of football card stunts. The speakers’ nationality, countries’ flag and full name wiped on to the accompaniment of stadium sound effects. Incredibly detailed, each introduction was animated realistically, allowing for human error to creep in, with an upside down or skew card here and there.
Outcome
Locally magazine retailers were quizzed on expo event details by curious consumers and were unable to meet magazine demand. Design Indaba magazine sales increased to a 150% of average sales and 50% more magazines were sold than in the previous quarter.
