Execution
For the DIRECTV campaign, we needed to find a celebrity who could play both himself and lesser versions of himself. It was integral that we land on a household name who not only embodied perfection, but who was also charming, likable, self-deprecating, funny, and a great actor on top of it all. And all of that at an affordable price. We quickly realized that this was no easy task. For the ads to work, we needed to find the needle in the haystack - A celebrity who could pull off the starring role in a campaign that at its core, makes fun of celebrity. After months and months of poring over lists of Hollywood stars, researching, exploring, consulting, demoing, and negotiating, we hit our bulls eye. Rob Lowe. An eternally handsome Hollywood veteran, who brought just the right amount of charm and tongue in cheek quality. And who played his perfect self and all of his less-than-perfect selves to perfection.
