Description

"This is Disney’s AquaDuck" is a 90 second interactive cinema ad for the Disney Cruise Line. The ad uses a combination of motion capture technology and live action video to enable the audience, to virtually steer a raft on its latest attraction the AquaDuck, a 765 foot first-of-its-kind water coaster from their seat in the cinema. This adventure begins when the audience is personally invited by Donald Duck to take the ride with him and help him retrieve his rubber ducks from the water-coaster.Before the start of the ride Donald demonstrates to the audience how they steer the raft by moving their arms left and right.3-2-1, the ride begins. The audience is now transported inside the AquaDuck as if seated behind Donald Duck on the raft. The view is a first person perspective of the coasters interior and Donald's feet. The audience and Donald cast off together.

Navigating right and left through the AquaDuck’s network of transparent tubes, the riders can enjoy great views of the ship from above. But Donald is on a mission and he needs the audience’s help. Rubber ducks begin to appear and the audience must work together leaning left or right to position the raft so that Donald can catch his ducks. Points are displayed for each duck caught by Donald and of course Donald is never shy at expressing his emotions good or bad.At rides end, the audience is greeted back by Mickey and friends. Donald also delivers a grateful “well done” to the audience. Finally, to top off a great adventure everyone is treated to a Disney fireworks display kicked off by Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. It is such a beautiful display even the stars of the Little Mermaid show up to watch.
