To act as the current Paulo, our casting team managed to recruit himself for the role. But what about the Paulo from the past? More than an actor, we needed an actor/para-athlete/between 8 and ten years old/ who had the same congenital malformation as Paulo. An increasingly rare physical condition due to the Portuguese National Vaccination Program implemented in the last decades. In other words: an impossible casting.

Thanks to the partnership between the casting team and the Paralympic Committee, for six months, we searched, found and contacted ALL the boys between 8-12 years old with congenital malformation in Portugal.

Only one matched all the requirements for the role. He still had to learn to ride a horse. After more two months of riding classes, he did it. That’s why his smile on the film is so truthful.
