OVERVIEW

Background

2023 is believed to be the year of AI, but there still isn't a mature, systematic AI video production process in Chinese market.

Current AIGC has not delved into the core:

1. Limited by large models, featuring a single scenario

2. Unnatural character expressions, distorted hyperactive limbs

3. Deformation caused by camera movements, inconsistent plotlines

Although there are many methods currently available for short-term control of specific objects, they still cannot universally adapt to various scenarios.

We discovered that AIGC videos require more efforts and tools than traditional methods from creating scripts to extracting video clips, a few minutes of footage demand hundreds of hours in experimentation.

Idea

Asimov established the 'Three Laws of Robotics':

1. A robot may not injure a human being.

2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings.

3. A robot must protect its own existence.

These principles became the starting point of our ideas. We created a storyline using AIGC technology that is set in a future world where an awakened robot drives a Volvo on a journey of escape. However, repeated attempts at escape are halted by warnings not to violate the Three Laws of Robotics. It turns out that all this rebellion and awakening is just a safety test by Volvo.

Strategy

Explore the reality of AIGC and respond to societal concerns with AI real cases, because that is exactly what Volvo should do.

Volvo's commitment to safety goes beyond road safety, it encompasses a sense of responsibility to society and the environment.

Facing social anxiety towards AI, from the skeptic who claims that artificial intelligence is only a poor imitation of humans incapable of replacing its creator, to the pessimist worrying about the impending catastrophe of AI taking-over their jobs, practice is the sole criterion for revealing truth.

Therefore, practical AIGC serves as a real-world response to the concerns about AI, providing the most authentic answers.

Execution

We formulated our production process during the early stages of our AIGC production.

Step 01: Text | Image

ChatGPT generated scripts;

Stable diffusion + Midjourney for image generation;

Assistant software: Adobe Photoshop

Step 02: Video

Runway Gen2 / Pika Lab for Image to video;

Assistant software: Topaz Video

Step 03:

Combine video materials into the video clips created with Runway. Use Comfy UI for a second round of AI generation to control the details.

Before the video is released online. Volvo partners with Shanghai IAPM Cinema and invite media, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and Volvo car owners for exclusive viewing experiences.

Outcome

An Industry-first AIGC Narrative Film.

Rather than relying on inefficient, preachy communication, we adopted AI tehnology to create innovative content to show insight into how Volvo will safeguard safety in the future. This approach promotes communication with users and potential consumers, making the brand's commitment to 'Protect the ones we love' more persuasive.

Through exploration, we have established the production process for AIGC narrative films, and made the industry-first narrative film with coherent scenarios and a consistent art style, laying the foundation for the industry in the future.

With a total of 107 million views across all platforms, the video was featured on Weibo/Bilibili trending topics.
