Description

Ethicon is a Johnson & Johnson division for surgical supplies. Its sutures and patches are high quality and perform better than its competitors, but they’re more expensive, too.

In order to prove the effectiveness of their products, the Johnson & Johnson sales force had to visit hospitals, gather data, fill out forms, send it to an analyst, and then return much later to show how Ethicon products can help to save money and lives.

We were called in to make this process shorter and more effective — into something that can be done in a few minutes over an interview.

The result was the Johnson & Johnson Ethicon IP tool, a mobile app that measures the potential savings of hospitals using Johnson & Johnson sutures and patches, in real time, using data visualization.

Execution

We decided to show the statistics using data visualization for quick comprehension. Once the Johnson & Johnson salesperson enters the information provided by the hospital’s Purchasing Department, the Ethicon IP Tool can:

• Choose ISO or BAC analysis, depending on the type of supplies the hospital needs.

• Measure risk reduction.

• Check the actual cost and edit the information, as it pertains to the hospital data.

• See how the data entered impacts the overall numbers, in real time.

• Tap on “Savings with Ethicon” to see how much the hospital can save, overall, by using Johnson & Johnson medical supplies.

Outcome

We streamlined a 40-day process of data gathering and analysis into a five-minute interactive experience. That helped the Johnson & Johnson sales force prove the effectiveness of their products, and most importantly, helped hospitals improve their performance — saving more money, and lives.
