Background
The goal was that you wouldn’t be isolated using Apple Vision Pro, or disappear from the world around you. Instead, this technology should maintain that human connection through a first of it’s kind 3D lenticular display that reveals your eyes.
Idea
EyeSight on Apple Vision Pro helps people stay connected with those around them. When a person approaches you, the front of Apple Vision Pro feels transparent—letting you see them while displaying your eyes. This enables more human connection and solves the issue of isolation often found with other AR/VR devices.
Execution
The technical challenge for EyeSight was designing this in a way that looked and felt natural. EyeSight renders 28 separate views of your eyes and displays a real-time image on the front of the device that makes it look transparent. The M2 chip delivers powerful performance, while the new R1 chip processes input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones to ensure that content feels like it’s appearing right in front your eyes. Other people in the room can see all your facial expressions and where you’re looking.
EyeSight is personalized with input from the cameras on the device while you create your digital Persona. You remove the device to capture your Persona, as the technology visually guides you, showing you when to turn your head and make facial expressions. The result is a 3D capture of your face and upper body and your personalized EyeSight.
While you’re using Apple Vision Pro, EyeSight has three states that give visual cues—showing others when you’re not viewing any content, when you’re using apps, and when you’re fully immersed. If someone approaches you, EyeSight reveals them. A inclusive element key to Apple Vision Pro, EyeSight is designed both for those wearing the device, as well as those around them.
