Background

For years, the Yamaha T-Max was the undisputed king of maxi-scooters.

Honda designed the new Forza 750 to end that dominance and take back the lead. With the sales season approaching, we had to quickly organize our own crowning ceremony to prove to everyone that the Forza is now the most powerful maxi-scooter. In order to boost the industry codes, the "power of dreams" brand wanted to reach its target in a more tactical way, to make people forget about Yamaha's T-max and to make everyone agree that its new Forza 750 is now the king of scooters.

Idea

Legally barred from taking on market leader and longtime rival Yamaha, the Honda Forza 750 scooter redefines the comparison test. By challenging an international symbol of speed and immediacy that no scooter has ever challenged before: A tweet.

We all know that sending a tweet is something instantaneous, immediate, hyper-fast. But do you know how long it takes for a tweet to be published on Twitter? It’s in that tiny amount of time that Honda decided to prove the power of its new Forza 750.

On a 100-meter standing start, the ready-to-start Forza 750 faced its own ready-to-post tweet. The defeated tweet appeared on Twitter 0.55 seconds later. To prove to the entire community and our mentioned competitor, that of all the scooters out there, there is only one that is faster than Twitter.

Strategy

By challenging Twitter, we were able to target multiple audiences on the platform, including the Yamaha, Honda and Twitter communities.

By choosing this competitor, a modern symbol of immediacy and power, we were able to attract the attention of KOLs and journalists, the engagement of our customers and our target audience.

All of our social posts were also intended to drive traffic to our website and encourage people to book a test drive of the new Forza 750 at the dealerships. No matter who the leader is, the Forza 750 is now the only scooter faster than Twitter, just ask Google.

Execution

Everyone knows that a tweet is posted almost instantly on Twitter, but nobody knows that the Forza 750 is even faster than that.

On September 14, 2021, on an airfield track, at the exact spot where the Forza was supposed to face the Tmax, it finally faced its own tweet.

In a 100m standing start, Honda had almost nothing to do but win.

After the defeated tweet was posted on Twitter, the video of the race and the hashtag #FASTERTHANTWITTER were relayed on the Honda page, by the loser himself.

By mentioning Yamaha in our tweet and with the support of some KOLs, we quickly let the maxi-scooter community and others know who was the new king, or at least the one and only scooter faster than Twitter.

Outcome

Like a good loser, Twitter shared this campaign with the #FasterThanTwitter and the engagement rate was about 17% (around 3 times than our other posts). On YouTube, we reached a 4,7% click rate, and more than 758k people across all medias. All our social posts were also thought to drive traffic to our website and to eventually make people book a try of the new Forza 750 in dealerships. Around 90 persons come on the dedicated page to book a try. Moreover, comments on our posts and likes show Honda France continue to gain adhesion and to be seen as a creative brand.
