Find Your Swede is a social experiment and a personal guide that helps people worldwide find their doppelganger in Sweden.

In a time when borders are closing and the distance between countries is growing, VisitSweden wants to show that people have more things in common than they have things that differentiate them. Working in partnership with a psychologist and behavioural scientist, we've developed a service that links together two like-minded people, based on their interests and values.

After completing a personality test with 38 questions, the doppelgangers are given a unique insight into each other's lives via Instagram and DM. For travellers, it gives them a personal guide in Sweden and they can ask for recommendations about where to eat and stay. While for ordinary Swedes, it gives them the chance to become ambassadors for Sweden.

To be able to test and verify the accuracy of the test, we needed real data. Therefore, we released a beta version of Find Your Swede in 2015 on the British market.

The project spread fast in social media – mainly from VisitSwedens own Facebook page, but also thanks to a presentation video on YouTube. Although still testing out the idea and functionality, it sparked interest among journalists and got deep coverage in traditional media outlets.

The beta version of Find Your Swede was launched in 2015 and received an overwhelming reception, with a massive conversion rate of 25 % – meaning 1 out of 4 visitors at findyourswede.com signed up with their Instagram accounts and completed the whole test with 38 questions.

The project will be launched worldwide in 2016 with the ambition to make all visitors in Sweden feel like home, with the help of their Swedish doppelgangers.
