The Famous Five embark on an unexpected adventure across the GWR network when the gang is accidentally separated from Timmy the Dog. The ensuing romp sees Julian, George, Dick and Anne taking advantage of GWR’s new high-speed Intercity Express trains as they chase Timmy on an adventure that takes them all across the stunning scenery of the South-West.

TThe Famous Five books have sold over 100 million copies worldwide. Despite their fame in print, they had never been brought to life in animation. The production process began with assembling a world-class team of illustrators and animators. Working towards Eileen Soper’s original illustrations we set about creating our own Famous Five character designs.

We then modelled those characters in CG. 2D artists were then brought in to draw over the CG characters to give that illustrative look back. After each of the 1,500 frames were composited together we printed them out and painstakingly rescanned every image to replicate the printed feel of the book illustrations. We then did a final touch-up pass to ensure that every frame felt like a traditional Famous Five illustration.
