Description

‘Granddad' focuses on how consumers feel when they use Visa – secure, confident and agile – and encourages them to take their next steps in the new world of payments, making their lives easier, faster and more nimble. The TV ad shows how an old man becomes not only faster and more agile through their use but also more youthful as he rushes to celebrate the birth of his grandchild.

Execution

We wanted to help transition the 'Anti Ageing' process of the protagonist as he becomes more youthful throughout the film. A series of actors were filmed wearing prosthetic make up and these are the techniques we employed to make the change as seamless as possible.

VFX on 'Older Gentleman' included removing wrinkles and skin softening, replacing sections of hair, and manipulating the shape of his face. One shot required a head replacement and body speed re-time, so we shot this against green screen and had the flexibility to reposition the elements in comp.

VFX on 'Middle Aged Gentleman'

Using reference photos and in camera plates, we tracked details of the older gentlemen's face onto the middle-aged mans face, gradually decreasing the effect between shots. Wrinkles, shadows and skin folds were added, his facial shape was altered, and colour grading helped to make this man look older.

Additional post throughout the spot included Digital Matte Painting work, 2 x Green screen shots of the balloons, card replacements, branding removal, and creation of the flashing lights on the trainers.
