Background

“The One Show Awards 2021 Exhibition in Japan” was held at the Ad Museum Tokyo. Our brief was to develop a design concept and create posters and venue décor for the exhibition that generate advance interest in the event and also increase awareness of the One Show itself in Japan which was relatively low compared to other international awards.

Idea

We sought to communicate the idea that creativity can play an important role in this difficult time, more than just promoting sales and improving business. As the only museum in Japan that features advertisement, we wanted to convey the message to today's society that if every one of us use our creativity and cooperate with each other, we can make "the here and now better", and that humans are the only being in this world that can do it.

Execution

We chose a vast garden as our visual motif, positioning creators as “Great Keepers” of the garden who work tirelessly to nurture positive ideas and movements for social change. The symbolism of the garden encompasses both environmental and human issues, providing a warm, welcoming visual context that resonated with our Japanese audience. We depicted different scenes of this garden being taken well care of; "Putting out fires", "Sharing water", "No littering" and "Clearing deadwood". The last piece "Our only home" depicts the edge of the garden and nothingness beyond it, suggesting that our world is finite and unique.

Outcome

Despite pandemic-related restrictions that required visitors to make reservations in advance, the exhibition was well attended by both industry insiders and the general public. It also helped increase awareness of the One Show Awards and the One Club in Japan.
