Description

Release1 is a non-profit, experimental industrial design collective. They curate touring exhibits of industrial design prototypes and concepts, geared around a specific theme. These exhibits, which have been featured in periodicals such as Wired and I.D., are intended to explore the ways in which industrial design affects our life, and to search out new ways in which it can have a positive impact. Release1 explores how industrial design can be involved in politics, art, economics and other fields not traditionally related. The site’s primary function is to serve as an outlet for Release1 information, including biographies, appearances, exhibits, calls for entries. Yet there is a secondary purpose as well. In designing the Release1 site, we worked to convey the edgy, experimental nature of the collective. The site was conceived as an extension of the Release1 modus operandi – design taken in surprising directions – designing things non-traditionally to illustrate and explore the traditional, as noticed through its absence. The navigation is unique and non-traditional, yet compelling and engrossing.
