Description
“Lets all go to the lobby” is an in-cinema advertisement that dates back to the 1950s. It starred a singing quartet of animated characters who would remind you through a catchy tune to head to the theatre lobby and pick up snacks and refreshments.
We thought it would be fun to imagine these characters as actors in real-life. And when they were done singing they would immediately go from a 1950’s 2-d animation world into a modern 3-d world.
As soon as they left their “stage,” they hop on their cellphones and blab away incessantly, distracting the cinema audience from enjoying the movie they’re about to see. Then the Geico Gecko would swoop in and get these gabby characters to get off their phones and keep quiet.
The whole film ends with the characters changing their famous rendition to “Lets all silence our cellphones,” as they sign themselves off stage.
Execution
The Hump Day commercial compares the happiness of GEICO customers with the happiness that a certain, loquacious camel feels every Wednesday.
Outcome
A weekly celebration of Wednesdays, the GEICO Hump Day online video developed a unique and ongoing share-ability with our audience socially. With an average of weekly 500 shares, it earned over 20 million views on YouTube.
All to become the most shared ad of 2013, according to Mashable. And the single most shared :30 of all time. Helping GEICO to have its best year ever in new policies.
