Description

Wildscape is an interactive website that enables teachers and school students to research, plan and create wildlife habitats online and then use their plans to guide planting and environmental projects in the school ground. Children choose which Australian native animals they would like to attract to their school grounds. They are then given a list of food and shelter plants (found in their region) that will attract the animals selected. Each plant comes with an icon that can be planted online to create a picture of how the school habitat will look in two years time. These plans can be printed and used as a reference for planting projects. The purpose of Wildscape is to provide teachers and their students with simple tools and resources online to create wildlife habitats in their school grounds. We are aiming (in the long term - five years) to involve 25% of Victorian schools in 'hand on' wildlife projects and to increase biodiversity (native wildlife and plants) in school grounds by up to 50%. Wildscape is unique because it is the first action based environmental program available online for Victorian schools combining information technology and hands-on environmental action.
