Background
Colourist Simona Cristea and Director Mert Alas have a decade long working relationship that has grown from strength to strength with each project. Their work on Calvin Klein is testament to the success of this partnership and the product of trust, creative freedom and collaboration. When bringing this project to Simona, Mert requested something bold and different and Simona took this and ran with it, creating exactly that.
Execution
Shot across multiple hours, with varied lighting conditions the footage demanded a grade that created a consistent magic hour look. The grade evokes a mood of classic Americana, with an ‘all american’ boy aesthetic achieved through bronzed skin tones that enhance Jeremy’s physique, and ensure those white Calvin Klein briefs, are crisp and clear. Unlike many of the Calvin Klein campaigns that utilise a black & white grade, this grade is a bold, confident move that not only enhances the ads visual appeal but also the narrative, symbolising optimism in it’s golden tones and embracing the beauty of simplicity.
