Description
In Kao TV (which means Face TV in Japanese), we help kids understand their world with simple stories about everyday objects. We created the app for smartphones and tablets that lets kids select the eyes, nose, mouth, and accessories that combine to create unique faces. When they're done, the created face jumps into the TV from their smartphone/tablet and sings a quirky song about its life.
Execution
In Kao TV (which means Face TV in Japanese), we help kids understand their world with simple stories about everyday objects. We created the app for smartphones and tablets that lets kids select the eyes, nose, mouth, and accessories that combine to create unique faces. When they're done, the created face jumps into the TV from their smartphone/tablet and sings a quirky song about its life.
In order to show the complex user generated animation on normal TV sets existing around Japan, we found an alternative usage of the Hybridcast API, which is usually used to display real time news & stats.
We also created a website that explains about the concept and shows people how to participate using text, images, and videos. After the show, kids can share their unique characters and check out all the faces that people across the country have created on this website.
Outcome
The show was a huge success not only for the kids and parents, but to the TV industry itself. The participation rate was 210% higher than any previous Hybridcast contents. It demonstrated the fun potential of interactive TV contents, and from its success, Kao TV has now become an ongoing TV series.
