Background

According to the Russian National Statistics Committee obesity increased in the last 5 years by 17%.

What is the main reason?

Kids can spend their money on whatever they want out of their school instead of eating at school canteens, where healthy food is served.

Until recently, the system was built in a way that had parents give their children cash to pay for their school meals. And it was children who did the actual paying, so parents had no way to control it.

BRIEF:

Find a decision that will help parents to control their children’s school menu and make their food healthier.

Objectives:

Offer a completely new application of the payment technology.

Support the bank’s image as an innovational and socially-responsible company.

Offer a local solution that is scalable to the federal level.

Description

Sberbank has launched a technology of paying for lunches at school in a nice & playful way to avoid any kinds of grunge attitude, because it is important not to put pressure on kids. Thanks to “Ladoshki”, kids don’t need any cash or cards — all they need is their hand. All a kid needs to do is to hold his/her palm to the terminal at the school’s canteen.

One kid even said once: Now, I feel adult, even more than my parents! Cause they can’t use it!

Execution

Sberbank has launched a technology of paying for lunches at school in a nice & playful way to avoid any kinds of grunge attitude, because it is important not to put pressure on kids. Thanks to “Ladoshki”, kids don’t need any cash or cards — all they need is their hand. All a kid needs to do is to hold his/her palm to the terminal at the school’s canteen. An infra-red scanner will scan the palm, give the system access to the bank account and withdraw money for lunch. Right after that, parents will receive an SMS with the information about their kid’s lunch purchase.

Now parents can be sure that the money they give to their kids is spent on normal healthy food, but not snacks or soft drinks.
