Every year, September 11th completely divides the country. Without discriminating ages, place of birth or political parties, each Chilean participates in this historical division
Therefore, 40 years after the coup d’état in Chile, we thought about finding out if society was prepared to forgive and ask for forgiveness. We built a website that allowed both actions by using two hashtags
We invited Chilean society to forgive or to ask for forgiveness about what happened 40 years before, in a microsite called www.perdonemonos.cl, which was linked to two hashtags: #I ask for forgiveness (#yopidoperdon) and #I forgive (#yoperdono).
Outcome
The website was a trending topic in Chile for more than 24 hours. It also achieved more than 800,000 views, engaging discussions and media coverage in newspapers, radio and television. But beyond numbers, we attained that people who played leading roles in this historical event shared their opinion in a very straight way, about the facts occurred in 1973.
